24-Feb-08 Bourton 10K

Dan Robinson continues to prove he is well on his way to a good London Marathon in 7 weeks time with a 29:21min 10k, breaking his previous  course record at Bourton-on-the-water this weekend.  Many other Stroud runners also had PBs.  For full results click here

10-Feb-08 Rachel Felton 12th in Europe

After a nightmare journey to Belgium, Stroud Athlete, Rachel Felton managed to put in a solid performance to finish 12th in an international field while representing England at the Dour Euro Cross country meeting on Sunday 10th February.

09-Feb-08 South West Schools X-Country Championship

A number of Stroud Athletes represented Gloucestershire in the South West Schools Cross Country Championships at Gloucester on Saturday 9th February. Performance of the day came from Tom Curr, who despite being a year young in the Intermediate boys age group, ran a superb tactical race to break away in the last 600m to win comfortably from the pre-race favourite. In the same race, Jordan Frapwell had another solid run in 54th place.

Other Performances: Senior Boys: Carl Frapwell 18th, Matt Withey 19th, Junior Boys: Tom Purnell 3rd, Harri Coldray 8th, Will Paulson 24th, MInor Boys: Tom Parnell 38th, Junior Girls: Imogen Briscoe 12th

The next race for Stroud athletes will be the National cross country Championships at Alton Towers on Saturday 23rd February 

04-Feb-08 Rachel Felton runs for England

Stroud Athletic Clubs Rachel Felton, has been selected to run for England in a cross country international in Dour,Belgium on Sunday. She claimed her place after finishing 3rd in the Southern Championships last weekend, beating a number of established internationals in the process. Her Coach, Chris Frapwell, said her selection was just reward for all her hard work and performances this winter."Well done and good luck!"   

27-Jan-08 Midland X-County Championship

Another successfull day was had by Stroud Athletes at Saturdays Midland cross country championships in Leamington. The U15 boys won the team title with great preformances from Tom Curr 2nd,after a heavy fall that cost him the individual title, Tom Purnell 4th, Jordan Frapwell 26th, and Aaron Phelps closing the winning team in 33rd, he was closely folowed by James Gardner 39th and Oliver Starkey 68th. The U13 boys also unofficially won the team title with Harri Coldray 4th, Will Paulson 5th, Xander Brown 33rd, Jethro Pickering 57th,Keelan Tootell 60th and Tom Parnell 61st, but Harri Coldray was innelligable to count for Stroud as he had not yet been cleared by England Athletics therefore Stroud were relegated to 7th. Imogen Briscoe ran the race of her life in the U13 Girls after being in contention for a medal for most of the race She faded in the last 800m to finish a brilliant 6th.

Other athletes competing were Carl Frapwell 30th U20 mens, Ben Coldray 6th U17 mens, Matt Withey 14th U17 men, Kate Goodhead 14th SW, Louise Durman 20th SW

20-Jan Inter county cross country competition

On sunday a group of Stroud Athletic Club Athletes travelled to Cardiff to represent Gloucestershire schools in an inter county cross country competition. In very wet and muddy conditions they all performed to a very high standard! Matt Withey and Carl Frapwell started the day off well with in the U20 race positioning 12th and 14th respectively. Then Tom Purnell ran superbly in the U15's finishing 3rd, backed up well by Harri Coldray 9th, Will Paulson 16th, Aaron Phelps 27th and Xander Brown 41st. Next up the U17's, TomCurr was 2nd, Ben Coldray 4th and Jordan Frapwell, excelling himself, in 19th to complete a winning team. The U13 boys saw Tom Parnell finish a creditable 18th. On the Womens side in the U15 girls, Imogen Briscoe, racing against girls up to 3 years older, showed what a talent she is for the future by finishing 9th in a top class field, she was followed in by Lisa Tattersall who ran well to finish 27th. In the last of the schools races Anna Tattersall finished 16th in the U15 Girls.

Also on the day there was a senior Ladies inter area competition, there were teams from the North, Midlands, South West and Wales competing. Three Stroud ladies, Rachel Felton, Kate Goodhead and Louise Durman, all coached by Chris Frapwell, Were selected to compete for the "South West". Rachel ran a brilliant race to finish 2nd, beating many current cross country Internationals, Kate finished with her best performance for some time in 12th, and Louise, returning from injury and illness, put in a solid performance in 20th. These three performances counted towards the South West winning the Team Race. 

10-Dec Schools County X-Country Champs

The county schools cross country championships were held at Crypt school Gloucester on saturday. The heavy rain made conditions tough for all , but the competing Stroud AC athletes aquited themselves well and qualified for their respective county teams by finishing in the top 16! Tom Currs win,in the intermediate boys, was probably the most impressive of the day when he ran away from a quality field to win by 15 seconds. Other results included: Intermediate Boy:Jordan Frapwell 10th, Senior boys: Matt Withey 1st, Carl Frapwell 2nd, Junior boys: James Gardner 3rd, Will Paulson 5th, Zander Brown 11th, Aaron Phelps 13th, Minor boys: Tom Parnell 4th, Junior Girls: Imogen Briscoe 6th, Thea Marshall 12th, Lisa Tattershall 16th, Intermediate girls: Anna Tattershall 8th
